When I think about mixing styles for myself or my clients, I'm thinking about balance.

Not making everything match. Not making everything different.

It's about knowing when to let one piece have a little more weight, when to bring in something quieter, and how to create enough connection that all the different pieces still feel like they belong together.

That's the part of mixing styles that I love most. The individual pieces can be completely different, but the room still feels cohesive.

Your style is probably already there. You just haven't stepped back far enough to see it yet.

The color for or bedroom didn’t start in the bedroom. I carried it from things I love in other rooms.

The green had been showing up throughout our home, so when it came time to choose a color for the bedroom, I didn't have to go looking for something completely new.
It’s not the exact same green. Just a color relationship that helps the rooms feel connected.

This is one of my favorite ways to create cohesion in a colorful home: don't always introduce a new color. Sometimes give an existing one another place to live.

I love color. Obviously. But I don't believe every beautiful color belongs on every wall.

A paint color has a very different job than a pillow or a sweater. It's living alongside everything else in the room. So I want to understand the colors already there before I make a recommendation.

That's why my process starts with the room, not the paint deck. I don’t want to just find a color that's beautiful on it's own, I want to find the one that makes everything else you have look better.
